SIGHT - SEEEING

MEGALO CHORIO: It is the capital of Tilos since the ancient times, built within the fortress and round it on the slopes of the mountain. The church of Archangel Michael was built then just outside the Hellenistic walls.

Big silver icons from the church of Taxiarchis in the castle were carried here. It’s worth seeing the wood-carved iconostasis with the pulpit and throne, works of mid 19th century. Inside and round Megalo Chorio there are numerous little 15th century churches with fine fresco-Paintings.

AGIOS ANTONIOS: A small port on the NE part of the gulf, with a few houses, a restaurant and a hotel. The most unusual thing to see is the "beach Rocks" on the coast with human skeletons dating from the 5th century B.C.

PLAKA: 3 km to the left of Agios Antonios. We get to a beautiful beach and the Plaka estate which belonged to the monastery of St. Panteleimon, which is 2 km from Plaka. It’s a road along the edge of a precipice leads to a fantastic scenery almost at the top of the mountain. Sunset is a sensational sight from up there!
