All Reiki practitioners have qualified to a certain level of achievement and attunement and are divided into three degrees or qualifications.
Reiki 1 - The First Degree
A practitioner qualified to the Reiki 1 Degree has undertaken a course of study with a Reiki Master and has received an "attunement" from that Master which enables him or her to "tune in to" the Reiki energy and deliver it to the patient's body to heal physical ailments. Several people have achieved this degree simply to be able to treat themselves as Reiki can easily be applied in self- healing.
Reiki 2 - The Second Degree
An attunement at the second degree enables the practitioner to heal emotional and mental problems, along with physical complaints. Additionally, it is possible to address past-life and karmic issues, and even to heal into the past and the future, and over great distances. This is achieved by the use of certain secret symbols, only known to practitioners of the second and third degrees. The Reiki 2 practitioner receives these symbols during their training, along with the necessary second attunement which enables their use.
Reiki 3 - The Third Degree - The Reiki Master
The Reiki 3 Practitioner (or Reiki Master) has the additional ability to pass attunements to others, and to train other Reiki practitioners. The qualifications for all the degrees are stringent, and expensive, but none more so that for the Master. The traditional fee for the Master Attunement is $10,000 - around £6,500! However, many Reiki Masters now take the view that Reiki should be more universal, and such fees are outside the range of the majority of people. Vastly reduced fees are often offered.
