Attractions of Launceston

Historical Sites: Launceston was founded in 1805 , and as can be expected several houses dating from the early 19th century still survive . Entally House , located 13km from the city was built around 1820 and is furnished still in the style of that period. 'Franklin House' and 'Clarendon' are two other similar sites and all warrant National Trust classification.

Cataract Gorge is a natural basin where the South Esk River meets the Tamar. Go on walks around the basin or take it all in from above as you ride on the world's longest single-span chairlift. The gorge is floodlight after dark - making for a truly spectacular scene.

Penny Royal World is one of Launceston's premier tourist destinations. It is a recreation of a 19th century township , complete with a gunpowder mill, period shops and even a model sailing ship!

Launceston Federal is a top standard country club , located in hundreds of hectares of scenic bushland. Every need of the traveller can be met here - from accomodation to sporting activities to just lazing around, and to top it all off , it comes complete with a world-class casino.
