Kalgoorlie-Boulder is the major centre of this region. The Golden Heartlands lies on the edge of the Nullarbor Plain. Inland the landscape is forbidding, while the coastline stretches out in long, empty beaches.
Dry eucalypt forest surrounds the area around Kalgoorlie where gold was discovered in the 1890's. The goldmines in this region still produce 70% of Australia's gold. However, the goldrush gave way to a pastoral lifestyleand now it is a rich agricultural region which supports a strong wheat and wool industry.

Transportation to Golden Heartland
Kalgoorie is about a 4 hrs drive from Perth so you probably strugle ro see the sites in one day. Bus tours are pevelant and is not uncommomn for people to drive up and spend the night at one of the motels listed above.
