General Information About Gold Coast

Gold Coast is Australia's Miami Beach, a striking contrast to Brisbane only an hour away. As an point entry into Queensland it could be hard provide a less typical picture of the rest of the state; aggressively superficial. However, it is not the place to go if you are seeking peace and quiet. There are night clubs, bars and theme parks which will provide non-stop entertainment.

The coast forms a virtually unbroken beach 40km long, south from South Stradbroke Island past Surfers Paradise and Burleigh Heads to the New South Wales border at Coolongatta. Surfers Paradise has the highest concentration of attractions and tall building; as you head south through an unbroken string of motels and shops the pace slows(relatively) and it's easier to find some unoccupied sand. The beaches are still touted as the main attraction, though they have become a backdrop to the more commercial interests, and they swarm with bathers and board riders all year round. Surfing became popular along coast in the 1930s and still pulls in veterans and novices; learning is as easy as renting a board and typing, though you might want some tuition. Coolangatta, Burleigh Heads and South Stradbroke have the best waves and definitely the more serious surfices, but you will find gentler swell all the way along the coast.
With around 300 days of sunshine each year there's little "off-season" as such . Rain can fall at any time during the year, including mid-winter - usually dry in the rest of the state - but it's the possibility of cyclones between January and Easter which tends to thin the crowds out. They come back for the Gold Coast Indy car race in March and then gradually increase in numbers over the year, peaking at Christmas.

Surfers Paradise Gold Coast

Spiritually,if not geographically, Surfers Paradise is at the heart of the Gold Coast, the place where it aims and aspirations are the most clearly experienced. For the residents, this involves making money by providing services and entertainment for tourists; visitors reciprocate by parting with their cash
Historically, Surfers' beaches have been attracting tourists since late last century though the town only started developing along commercial lines during 1950s when the first multistorey beachfront apartments were built.
