Attraction
The City of Bendigo has a long and colourful history. The huge amount of gold discovered here has left an extravagant mark, making it the most splendid mid-19th Century Victorian city in Australia. The classic streetscapes of public buildings, hotels and fountains at Pall Mall and View Street, not to mention the Bendigo Capital Threatre, are testimony to this.
Sovereign Hill - Here you can experience the life of the goldrush days. Located 113 kilometres north west of Melbourne in Ballarat, is Sovereign Hill. An outdoor museum built on the site of what is known as the richest alluvial goldrush in the world. Here you will discover the story of Ballarat's first 10 years following the discovery of gold in 1851. See the recreations of businesses, buildings, equipment, working plant and coaches which are known to have existed during the 1850s.
