The name of the community comes from the Ancient Asklipeio that was located on the area. Until today no buildings has been found.
The community is characterised as a built up area with aegean style characteristics, built on a hillside, with pure white small houses and narrow streets.
It is only 4 km from the central provincial road of Lindos-Kattavias and from the right side of the road 15 km from the crossroads of Lindos.
At the entrance of the village there is the Byzantine Church of the Assumption of the Virgin, of cruciform order with dome built in 1060 of stone and an accession for a place set apart from women took place in the 17th century.
The Saint Mary's festival takes place in the 15th of August.
It is pictorial since the 16th century with characteristical themes from the Birth of Christ till the Christ's Resurrection and the Revelation of St John (the Apocalypse).
Characteristic is the colossal picture of Archangel Michael in the left side of the holy bema.
Beside the church there is a building of the 18th century that operates as a religious museum with old books, holy vessels and vests that date back in the 15th century. Apart from the religious museum there is also the folklore, agricultural museum, building of an old olive press, with objects that were used for daily operations.
On the hilltop predominates a Byzantine, Venetian Fortress built in 1200 AC which was the seat of a feudal lord during that era and bears the holy father's proprietary order.
The northeast part is sustained as well as 2 towers. It was repaired and maintained since 1935. In the village traditional coffeehouses are on business, together with the Cultural Center and the Library.
The seaside riviera of the built-up area of Kiotari
On the left side of the provincial road at about 500m the Kiotari built-up area is situated with a small monastery of the Transfiguration, celebrates on the 6th of August, built in the 8th century,
of stone.
Superb beaches with sand and shingles, a natural harbour which is being repaired. It is used by many amateurs fishermen who bring small boats into port.
In the area there are small hotel units, lodgings, shops, restaurants, canteen etc. In a distance of
1.5 km huge hotel units of approximately 2.000 beds capacity are on business.
